The new Volkswagen Polo GTI will be presented, the fastest, cleanest and most performance-oriented production Polo promises yet. The original performance version of the Polo was introduced in 1986 in the form of the G40 Coupe – a car that mixed high-revving, 113 HP compressor engine with a low curb weight and strengthened responses.
Fast forward 24 years and the new Polo GTI has similarities with the G40. At its heart is a 1.4-liter TSI engine that uses a compressor, minutes from idle to 3,000 rpm, at which point the turbocharger cuts to incentives. The result is an output of 180 hp at 6,200 rpm / min and 184 lbs ft of torque from 2,000 rpm, which, when aligned with a 1184 kg unlade speed of the Polo GTI from a standstill to 62 km / h in 6 , 9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 142 miles per hour.
Despite a strong focus on performance, the new Polo GTI capable of 47 mpg on the combined cycle, while the emissions of only 139 g / km CO2.
The TSI engine is a compact seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox DSG gearbox which channels drive the front pairing. In addition, the Polo GTI is equipped with the XDS differential, fitted an electronic cross-axis traction control for improved traction and handling. The XDS system is a functional extension of the electronic differential lock (EDS), which is part of the standard ESP system.
Response to tightening, the Polo GTI equipped with new springs and dampers, which in a 15 mm lowering than the traditional polo.
Like his brother Golf GTI, the Polo GTI has great aesthetic changes. A new front apron with a deep air intake is linked by a honeycomb grille with horizontal strips of red component and a simple GTI badge. New headlights, complete with the option of LED headlamps give the Polo GTI is an impressive new look.
Further back, a subtle sill extension wraps around the base of the body, while a new rear apron with a diffuser and a small pair of chrome-tipped exhaust. The Polo insignia was replaced with a simple “GTI” version.
Finally, a series of identical 17-inch wheels fitted, these are provided on the GTI, along with a number of red brake calipers.
The changes remain within the Polo GTI with revised dials, a new, completely flat floor GTI steering wheel with shift paddles and small contrasting red stitching, aluminum pedals and the new, heavily fortified front sports seats finished in tartan lining. Subtle design in glossy black covers the center console, while the headliner is now in black.
The new Polo GTI is going on sale in Europe in the summer, will be announced at which point the prices and specifications.
