The new 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 combines capability, utility and distinctive style with Street and Racing Technology (SRT) balanced approach to the performance, in the fastest, most powerful Jeep ever, and the ultimate performance SUV.
Powered by a 6.1-liter HEMI produces 415 hp (85 horses and 25 percent more power than the 5.7-liter HEMI-equipped Jeep Grand Cherokee-2006) and 410 lb-ft torque from the all-new 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 performance numbers include 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds, 0-100-0 mph in the low 19-second range, 60-0 mph braking distance and about 125 meters.
“When we first Jeep-branded SRT vehicle, increasing the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee presented us with an incredibly capable starting point,” said Dan Knott, Director – Street and Racing Technology, Chrysler Group. “With an infusion of SRT DNA, the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the new benchmark performance SUV. It has surpassed the raw power of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, while providing exceptional ride and handling, world-class braking, race-inspired interiors and functional, performance-oriented exterior enhancements. ”
Four-wheel-drive system:
To create the first SRT vehicle with full-time four-wheel drive, SRT engineers developed a drive system that was light, but robust and reliable enough for large amounts of horsepower and torque from the drive train handle the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is.
conducted under normal driving conditions, 50-10 percent of the torque to the front wheels, but more torque from the 6.1-liter HEMI as needed can be directed forward when additional traction and stability is required. Remaining torque is sent via a high-performance drive for the European Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel model designed, upgraded to a Dana 44 rear differential with a larger cog in a new axle housing.
Drive:
Providing horsepower and torque to the unique SRT-wheel drive system is a specially tuned version of the new 6.1-liter SRT HEMI engine. Inspired by the original family of Hemis, which employs SRT 6.1-liter HEMI hemispherical combustion chambers of the same, that offer performance and efficiency, while retaining classic HEMI visual cues including the orange-painted cylinder block and black valve covers.
Engine breathing was new, higher-flow cylinder heads, a specially designed intake manifold and fresh air intake system (water causes Fording increased up to 19 inches), and exhaust headers with individual tubes, packaged in a stainless steel. All rooms are unique in the 6.1-liter HEMI engine. Larger diameter valves and reshaped ports in the heads to ensure maximum air circulation. The intake manifold is designed with a larger diameter and shorter runners for higher-speed tuning. Exhaust is through a large diameter (2.75-inch vs. 2.5-inch) exhaust system routed with 4-inch chrome tips.
The power of the SRT 6.1-liter HEMI is sent through a special torque converter to an SRT-Upgrade A580 five-speed automatic transmission. The torque is then sent to the front and rear axles, transfer with a specially developed.
