Ford Launches Most Fuel Efficient Full Size Pickup
Ford Motor Company is the most economical full-size pickup from any manufacturer – the brand new 3.7-liter V6 engine in the 2011 F-150. It is expected that best-in-class are to deliver 23 mpg highway pending EPA certification.
The new 5.0-liter V8 engine is to deliver the best in their class, 21 mpg highway EPA certification pending projects.
“Deliver the new engine lineup for 2011 Ford F-150 on what is most important to truck customers is in place – Best-in-class reliability, performance, durability and economy,” said Barbara Samardzich, vice president of Powertrain Engineering. “Each engine offers a unique combination of these factors.”
The new 3.7-liter V6 is expected to provide 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway in 4×2 configurations. The new 5.0-liter V8 is to offer 15 mpg city and 21 mpg highway in 4×2 configurations projected. No manufacturer has a fuel consumption figures in the respective segments.
“Seventy percent of the F-150 customers better fuel economy, what they said was the most in their trucks and improved,” said Doug Scott, Truck Group Marketing Manager. “The 2011 Ford F-150 does just that with best-in-class fuel economy, best-in-class power and strength, and much more powertrain choices for their various needs.”
The new V6 and V8 account for half of an entirely new powertrain lineup for 2011 Ford F-150, one of the most comprehensive engine makeover in the 62-year history of the F-series. Also new for 2011, the 6.2-liter V8 and 3.5-liter EcoBoost ™ engine truck. The EcoBoost will be available in early 2011. Trucks with the 3.7-liter V6, 5.0-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 will arrive in dealer showrooms later this year.
Each engine is combined with a fuel-saving six-speed automatic transmission. Ford is the only manufacturer to its entire full-size pickup lineup with six-speed standard for the rest.
This versatile new powertrain lineup makes F-150 customers around the engine to choose the best suits their needs.
