BMW M3 GT2 Art Car Will Race at 24 Hours of Le Mans side view
PARIS – Images from “The speed and explosions were” based part of inspiration for the latest BMW Art Car, a colorful race car based on the BMW M3 GT2, and touch on race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 – 13 June. American artist Jeff Koons, a polarizing figure in the world of art, which is perhaps best for its giant balloon reproductions of animals which recently unveiled the 17 BMW Art Car announced here.
“As part of his creative process, collecting pictures of race cars, the artist, related graphics, vivid colors, speed and explosion,” BMW in a statement. “The resulting work of art created by bright colors suggestive Koons is in force, motion and full of energy.”
The latest BMW Art Car, # 79, a homage to Andy Warhol in 1979, cars, said BMW. The choice of Koons is fascinating, as the Wikipedia says: “The critics are strongly divided in their views about Koons.”
“Some see his work as a pioneer of great art historical importance,” said. “Others dismiss his work as kitsch: scratchy and is based on cynical self-merchandising.”
The German automaker said that Koons was an intensive cooperation with the team at BMW in Munich for months. ”
Details of Koons’ BMW Art Car graphics on the rubble of the rear sides and rear offset to simulate “The power of the car,” says BMW. Graphic to represent two rings on the back “supersonic acceleration.” The car has a silver interior.
The BMW M3 GT2 is equipped with a 493 hp 4.0-liter V8. BMW said Andy Priaulx, Dirk Müller and Dirk Werner is in the BMW Art Car 79 race.
