MUNICH – BMW is the latest European luxury brand to a large sedan for the Chinese market with its new long wheelbase 5-series to be developed. The flagship BMW 535Li and her brothers and sisters will be her first public appearance later this month to make the 2010 Beijing Auto Show.
Also allegedly planned to show, appears Beijing is a new Mercedes-Benz E300L, a stretched version of the recently revised E-Class sedan, based only on wealthy Chinese clients.
The new German entries with the existing models with long wheelbase as the Volvo and Audi A6L S80L compete. General Motors is also in the segment with the China-only Cadillac SLS.
The LWB 5 Series will be at the BMW plant in Shenyang Brilliance in northern China are assembled.
The wheelbase is stretched 5.5 inches, with the majority prefer the extra space in the rear passenger compartment, an allusion to the owner or his chauffeur. Facilities include a new “High Comfort” rear, plus many options and rear sunshades, a folding table at the back of the passenger seat, rear-seat entertainment-and four-zone climate control.
Buyers can choose between three six-cylinder engines, including a 302-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged unit. All engines are equipped with an eight-speed automatic standard.
Among the technologies on the LWB 5 Series Night Vision, available parking, lane departure warning and Head-Up Display.
