Porsche reserves the alphabet the letter R for special sports car: R for responsive and demanding – but very classy for that. The new Cayman R combines all these features without compromise. 55 kg (121 pounds) lighter and with ten horsepower more than the Cayman S, the new mid-engined coupe, the Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is designed for a spectacular ride. With its specially adapted sports suspension provides a more precise driving experience than the Cayman S. The Cayman R debuts today at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The new mid-engined coupe is powered by a supercharged 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine with 330 hp (243 kW). In the default configuration sends power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, the car drives 0-100 kmh (62 mph) in 5.0 seconds. Or there is the possibility of the Porsche seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox (PDK), which reduces its acceleration time of 4.9 seconds. For even more impressive sprint performance, the Cayman R with one of the optional Sport Chrono package, which is 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph) do come in 4.7 seconds. The new mid-engined coupe has a top speed of 282 kph (175 mph) with manual transmission or 280 kph (174 mph) with PDK. The NEDC fuel consumption is 9.7 litres/100 km (29.12 mpg imp.) With a six-speed gearbox and 9.3 l/100 km (30.37 mpg imp.) With PDK. The main objective in the development of the Cayman R was to improve the two-seater even further its performance, driving dynamics and agility through weight reduction. With a DIN unladen weight of just 1295 kilograms (2855 pounds), the Porsche engineers were able to force-to-weight ratio of the standard coupe with manual transmission to 3.9 kg (8.6 lb) per horsepower discount to obtained with PDK version with a weight of 4.0 kilograms (8.8 lbs) per hp. The biggest savings were achieved through the use of lightweight components and without the comfort equipment. How GT3/GT3 in the 911 and Boxster RS ??Spyder is an optional lithium-ion battery light also available. In addition, the top model in the mid-engined coupe with the lightest 19-inch wheels can offer the entire Porsche range equipped. The complete wheel set weighs less than 40 kg.
To see the Cayman Rs purpose and character of a purist at first glance. The elongated silhouette of the body that creates 20 millimeters (0.79 in) lower compared to the Cayman S, with the typical fixed rear spoiler, high-quality silver-painted wheels and plenty of sporting highlights on both interior and exterior, is an individual look. The black frame, headlights, mirrors and black “Porsche” lettering on the side – in contrasting black or silver, depending on body color – take design cues from the classic Porsche racing cars.
Just this case was the brand of the first Porsche with the “R” designation, R 911 of 1967. It was for racing in a small series of 19 cars. The “R” was a prototype of the standard Carrera coupe with a 210 hp engine and 6 are based, thanks to the many plastic parts and efficient appliances, weighing only 830 kilograms (1830 pounds).
