It is hard to believe that the 2012 BMW X3 is almost here. The BMW X3 is the Euro-premium soft-roaders that the Europeans think, instead of crossover sport-utility all the way back in 2003, and we have now arrived at the second iteration. They grow so fast, does not it?
For the second generation X3 internally as “F25″ BMW brought us out to a patch of rural Bavaria known to thrash a prototype vehicle. We had to negotiate some light off-road stuff, do splashy stuff, and then drive a couple of glasses of smooth sections of the two-lane road, where we were apparently allowed, but keep an eye peeled for gun chickens and horses in leather pants. The pre-production units are available, we jumped on the new top-of-the-line 2012 BMW X3 xDrive35i.
The first generation X3 (known as the “E83″) stops in early August of this year to build on the Magna Steyr plant in Graz, Austria, and then the model has more than 600,000 units sold, making it global sales king in its segment. A new series of BMW plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, has been ramping for the 2012 BMW X3.
