In a refreshing change from what promises to be a “green” 2011 Detroit Auto Show, GM on Thursday took the wraps off the fleshy GMC Sierra All-Terrain HD Concept. The body-on-frame truck concept – a serious off-roader – is designed to take on the new HD platform, “the next level,” says GMC.

GMC has not confirmed that the concept is bound to produce, but it seems pretty down. “Although it is strictly a concept that quite realistic,” said Lisa Hutchinson, GMC product marketing director in a statement.

GMC said the four-wheel-drive system, with its distinctive streamlined look that references to the future design direction of GMC Trucks.

The concept is linked to the new production line 6.6-liter V-8 Duramax Turbo Diesel with an Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission equipped. It delivers 397 hp.

The 2011 Sierra HD supports the concept that is shorter than the production of Sierra HD models. The concept is an improved suspension, higher ground clearance and a wider track. The concept is a unique 5-foot 8-inch crew cab / short body style. Further details are front and rear jounce shocks and 35-inch BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tires on 20-inch machined aluminum wheels. The streamlined bumpers have a practical bent and are designed to improve ramp.

The back of the term, lockable, illuminated storage compartments and an anti-slip rubber on the back. The composite bed liner has a “table” pattern.

The concept offers an Iridium Metallic paint. It is a dark charcoal with a reddish tinge. The cabin will feature chrome-plated stainless steel mesh and dull, and a new navigation radio, the GMC said: “previews future radio in GMC vehicles are made available.” It offers greater storage capacity of music from portable devices and has a time-lapse playback, which allows you 20 minutes recording / playback of AM / FM / XM stations.
