Making the public at the Paris Motor Show 2010 for the first time the Saab 9-3 ePower test the prototype for a fleet of 70 vehicles involved in extensive field trials in Sweden until early 2010. The Saab 9-3 Concept ePower’s first fully electric car is to offer its residents the comfort and the size of a wagon body style. Saab engineers have an electrical integrated architecture in the shape and dimensions of a “conventional” Saab Sport Combi 9-3.
Under the hood is a 135 kW/184 hp electric motor driving the front wheels via a single-speed transmission. Instant torque zero to 100 km / h acceleration of just 8.5 seconds with a top speed of 150 km / h.

The compact yet powerful 35.5 kWh lithium-ion a battery is housed in a custom base, especially in the area within the wheelbase of the car previously occupied the exhaust, and fuel tank. This allows an optimal weight and driving dynamics similar to a standard SportCombi.

The Saab 9-3 has projected ePower Driving range of 200 km pushes the boundaries of the current performance of the PA. Key to the long series of battery cells that have an energy density much larger than the best currently used in EV applications. High energy density also contributes to a lower weight of the battery.

The battery has a capacity of 35.5 kWh and is to work with full power in ambient temperatures from -30 º C, at least 10 º C below the operating level of the other batteries on the market today developed. Another important advantage is the use of air instead of liquid cooling, reduces costs and still carries more weight in the design of the packaging.
