With a 255-hp turbocharged (190 kW), a six-speed manual transmission and a sophisticated, adaptive all-wheel-drive system, the Buick Regal GS show car, a high-tech, high-performance version of the latest brand sport sedan. It was in the 2010 North American International Auto Show.
The mechanical parts were developed to a driving experience that sports and provide trusted and refined. It has a powerful drive train, a lowered body and a lower center of gravity. Exterior and interior cues, two additional vertical air intakes in front, large 20-inch forged aluminum wheels and performance tires, a race-inspired steering wheel and pedals made of metal. Recaro high-performance front seats have four-way lumbar support and pillow extensions.
“We have Regal GS designed to increase the attractiveness of a high-performance variant of the shelf investigation,” said Craig Bierley, product marketing director for Buick. “As the shelf, the Regal GS is based on the award-winning Opel Insignia, and we believe it will be Buick Gran Sport storied legacy revitalization.”
The Regal GS exterior is characterized by vertical air inlets in the dash and unique sill, an integrated rear spoiler, two exhausts, Olympic white satin and metallic accents.
“The idea behind the Regal GS, the production model in a more aggressive towards an appeal to performance enthusiasts,” said John Cafaro, Buick design director. “But with his aggressive attitude, style is elegant in design that complements the driving experience.”
The Regal GS ranging from standard to a full jet shelf black interior, including the pillars and roof lining, sport shifter for the six-speed gearbox and a fall suede, flat-bottomed steering wheel is reminiscent of the use in international racing. The instrument panel lights blue when the driver of the sports mode of the Interactive Drive Control System (IDCS) locks.
AWD turbo power:
Power for the Regal GS is a high-output 2.0L Ecotec Turbo engine with direct injection technology. It is based on the engine, which will be offered at the shelf CXL models later this summer, but the turbo engine and adapted to deliver a higher boost pressure in GS. Power is 255 hp (190 kW) and 295 lb.-ft. estimated torque (400 Nm).
The engine is a six-speed manual transmission that calibrated torque leads to an adaptive all-wheel-drive system for performance driving. An electronic, limited-slip differential allows the engine with a power actually divided within itself.
The high-performance drive in the Regal GS is expected to accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds. This performance is complemented by a four-wheel independent suspension, with a unique high
Performance Strut (HiPerStrut) pattern on the front. The system helps reduce torque steer and maintain HiPerStrut negative camber during cornering. This improves the ultimate grip in dry and wet conditions and an improvement in the direct sense of the road while isolating unwanted feedback. Behind the wheel of the driving experience less torque steer, a better grip and increased power curves, with sharper handling, steering precision and feedback.
The Regal GS is equipped with a high performance Brembo brake system with 14 x 1.2-inch (355 x 32 mm) drilled rotors, four-piston, high-strength aluminum calipers and high performance brake pads.
The Regal GS is interactive with Drive Control System (IDCS) chassis technology (also available on the shelf CXL models with the 2.0-liter turbo engine) equipped. It provides enhanced stability of the vehicle and road safety, but also the adaptation of the handling of the car improves on the preferences of the driver. The driver of between three modes – normal, sport and to amend GS – the suspension settings, throttle and steering sensitivity to select the variable-effort steering system.
